Members and candidates also should be aware that some of their professional or social activities within CFA Institute or its member societies may subtly threaten their independence or objectivity. When seeking corporate financial support for conventions, seminars, or even weekly society luncheons, the members or candidates responsible for the activities should evaluate both the actual effect of such solicitations on their independence and whether their objectivity might be perceived to be compromised in the eyes of their clients.
this above is a point in the core reading regarding INDEPENDENCE AND OBJECTVITY.
so as per my understanding this pt. is saying that even social activities can impact our independence . can anyone could add some points regarding the same as seeking financial support for any social activity . how does it impacts our independence.
What I understood and want to add here is that imagine you took a financial support from an organization during social activities than being a member you have to be independent if tomorrow the organization becomes your client. It should be compromised considering financial support you got by them earlier.
May be this what they are referring here.
so you are saying that if say i have taken a donation for a social cause from any organization and latter that organization become my client or indirectly i am dealing with that particular firm so all in all it might impact my independence and objectivity..
Yes
