A country has a regulatory authority that has been given sufficient autonomy by the govt and is empowered by the statute and collect fees from the three firms it regulates.
The answer is independent regulator, my doubt is why cant it be SRO?

Hey Shivani! the understanding is a bit ambiguous & we can’t help the same but still based on my understanding one point of distinction b/w independent regulators & SRO is that later is funded by govt whereas the prior is not.
The reason why you said Independent regulators is because it’s no where mentioned that they’re funded by govt.
I hope my explanation is correct & it helps you out. Thank you!
Both SRO and independent are not funded by govt.
We can remember this , because of fees collection it’s an independent regulator.
But SRO is also an independent regulator.
